What is interest?

by NexGen Trading Academy  ·  Unit 8 of 100

Interest is the amount paid or earned for the use of money over a specified period. When money is deposited with a financial institution, interest represents the return received by the depositor. When money is borrowed, interest becomes the cost paid to the lender in exchange for using those funds. Interest rates may vary depending on the financial product, market conditions, and the agreed terms.
